I support The AFG and SAFER Program Reauthorization Act of 2017 (H.R. 3881) and would vote Yes to pass it as your Congressman. In 2005, the City of Spokane Fire Department had to cut positions for 48 first responders due to budget reductions. In 2016, a federal grant allowed SFD to hire 48 new firefighters, returning them to the 2004 staffing levels. The need for emergency fire, medical and hazmat services has only increased over time. It is the duty of public officials to ensure that our citizens are safe by properly funding the emergency services necessary to do so.
